FARMERS' UNION.

The executive of the Farmers' Union met yesterday afternoon, Mr W. "W. iMulhollaiid presiding in the absence of the president, Mr W. A. Banks. Letters were received from the Chamber of Commerce and the Christchurch "YYoolbrokors' Asaociation, in response to .the representations made in the matter of woolpacks. / Member's remarked that each body seemed to be shouldering the matter on to the other. It was pointed out, however, that thero -was little hope of' succeeding in the matter without the assistance of Australia, although affairs wore looking more promising as time went on, . and that it would ultimately be arranged in London. It was decided that nothing further could be done until the annual meeting, which would be tho first representative meeting of Now Zealand farmem The Oxford and Ashburton branches of the union wrote signifying their approval of tho Imperial G-overnment's action in granting free passages to youths to assist on farms tn the Dominion, the; Oxford branch forwarding the names of sis members who worn desirous of employing such youths, and stating that twenty could be absorbed in the district, and the Ashburton branch stating that employment could be found for any number. A member remarked that immigrants were necessary to grow the country_B pram. Many men in the country were going dairying, and thero would be insufficient for the purposes of producing wheat without immigration.
