AMERICAN WINTER CROPS. An increase of 1,030,000 bushels over tho estimate of April 1 is mndo in tho Unitod Statos Department of Agriculture's May 1 estimate of winter wheat production. " A total production of 484,647,000 bushels, a reduction of 287.000,000 as compared with last year, is forecast. The area of winter wheat to be harvested was about 84,165,000 acres, 4,605,000 <icto3 (11.9 per cont) less than the acreage planted last autumn, and 15,740,000 aoros f 33.8 por cont) less than tho ocreage harvested last year, viz. 49,905,00 acre's. The ton-year avera.<ro per cent of abandonment of planted acreage is 11.2. Tho average condition on May 1 was 79.1, compared with 75.6 on April 1. 100.5 on May 1, 1919, and 57.1, the average for the past ten years on May 1. A condition of 79.1 per cent on May 1 is indicative of a yield per acre or approximately 14.1 bushels, assuming average variations to prevail thereafter.
