AN INFLUENTIAL APPEAL. [Per Prksb Association.] WELLINGTON, June 18Tho following telegram has been re ceived by the Governor-General from the Secretary of State for tho Colonies: " Tho following telegram is sent at tho request of the Lord Mayor of London (president of tho Appeal Committee), Lord Robert Cecil (president of the Executive Council) and Lord Richard Cavendish (chairman of the Executive Council of the Imperial War Famine Fund): — " Tho Imperial War Famine Fund has launched here an appeal to combat starvation and disease in Europe and the Near East. Tho patron is his Majesty the King, and the president is tho Lord Mayor of London. Tho appeal is supported by the Prime Minister, the Lord Chancellor, > and tho leaders of all political parties, including the churches, Labour organisations, naval and military services, and medical professions, with the co-operation of the British Red Cross and Order of St John, and the League of Red Cros3 Societies.

" It is intended to co-ordinate and concentrate British effort for tho relief of ono of tho most terrible tragedies in history, and an impressive national movement is looked for. Specimen literature is being posted. The funds will bo administered by tho British Red Cross and approved agencies."

The telegram was considered at a meeting of tho Executive of the Red Cross yesterday, and it was decided that local committees should receive any subscriptions forthcoming, and arrange to remit money so subscribed.
