FLIGHT TO MOUNT COOK.
£ CIRCUIT FROM FAIR,LIE. ITrom Our Correspondent.] FAIRLIE. May 21. At 11 o’clock this morning Captain Dickson, with Mr T. D- Burnett >is passonger, left Fairlio for Mount Cook on ari aerial survey of the country Tho day was fine, although there was enow on tho bills, but -a gale of wind was blowing. The Avto returned to Fairlie at noon, without making a circuit of the Hermitage, as the snow was so heavy towards Mount Cook, that any survey was imnossible. It is understood that Captain Dickson will roturn to Christchurch to-morrow morning with Mr Hunter-Weston and his son.
REPORT FROM CAPTAIN DICKSON. • A report received from Captain Euan Dickson states:— “ We arrived at Fairlie at 3.10 p.m. yesterday, after one hour relay at Wa.tohi, where the machine landed to pick up petrol; everything D.K. “We did the trip to Mount Cook this morning, leaving Fairlie at 10.30 a.rn., and turned back the othei side of Lake Tckapo. The machino reached a height of 13,000 ft. Visibility over the Mackenzie Country was perfect, and the gorge at the Hermitage was very clearly seen- We did not land at Mount Cook, as there was a very heavy head wind. We landed back in Fairlie at noon, just one hour and a half after leaving. A very heavy nor’-west wind is blowing, so cannot do any joy-riding this afternoon, but if worth while will do some before leaving on tho return journey to Christchurch to-morrow.”
