A CONTRAST.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —Permit me through the columns of your paper to compliment the Education Board on the excellent manner in which they provided for the children of tho country schools that came to Christchurch to take part in the reception given to FI.R.H. the Prince of Wales on Friday last. The children were taken from the railway station to the Technical Schpol and given as much wholesome food as they could eat and plenty of tea to wash it down. There was no overcrowding or pushing, and ample time was given for the meal. After seeing the Prince the children ware given a walk around tho town and then back to the school where another cup of tea and a couple of buns sent them home in go6d trim. The arrangements were splendid, and the manner in which they were carried out reflects great credit on all concerned. I am sorry I cannot compliment the City Council or whoever was responsible for the marshalling of the children in Armagh Street, a more hopeless muddle could scarcely be imagined. The footpath was' advertised for children only, but no stops were taken to keep adults off of them, with the retails that long before the arrival of tho Prince the children were pushed off the footpath on to tho road. And in a good many instances adults elbowed their way right through the children and stood in front of them refusing to move when requested to do so by the teachers. Whoever was in charge of this part of the ceremonies certainly deserved a medal (I don’t think) for tho masterly way in which tho whole affair was mismanaged. It was a vivid contrast to the way in which the Education Board handled tho feeding of the children. Thanking you in anticipation, I am, eto., COUNTRY PARENT.
