SPORTING.

NEWS AND NOTES. The performance of Burrangonc in. the Oarnaru Cup provided a great reversal of form compared with his running at Ashburton and Tim nr u. At these meetings he was neglected on the totalisator and he was never prominent while yesterday he was a good third favourite and ho-won in very decisive fashion. Tho North Otago Jockey Club did riot receive much support from owners for its steeplechase, which formed a new feature of the meeting this week. There wore only six starters for the cross-country event yesterday, arid they were not a particularly good lot. They provided an interesting contest, however, though half tho field made mistakes.

Radial registered a fine performance in winning the Stewards Handicap at Oamaru yesterday, as he had the opposition beaten some distance from, home. ' Ho wus showing signs of lameness after the race.

There was a good deal of bumping between Marching Order and Nautical over tho last furlong of the Fernbrook Handicap, the final event .at Oarnaru yesterday, and an exciting finish ended in favour of Marching Order by a head. An inquiry was neid into a charge of interference. Altci a lengthy investigation the Judicial Committee administered a _ severe caution to G. Young, the - rider of Marching Order, hut decided to take no other action.
