LONDON, May 17. In the House of Commons, Mr Bonar Law stated that in October, 1919, when it was feared that the Russian Soviet Government would attack tho Russian border States, Poland asked for British assistance in military equipment. Owing to our commitments elsewhere the Government was unable to give financial assistance, but offered to supply a quantity of surplus stores if Poland undertook to bear the cost of moving and all transport arrangements. The offer was accepted, and the Polish Government was now shipping part of tho stores. Otherwise no assistance Had been given to Poland.
BOLSHEVIK COUNTER-ATTACK. United Service. (Received Mav 19," 11.15 p.m.) LON DON, May 18. The Polish Legion reports that five Bolshevik divisions counter-attacked between the Dnieper and the Dvina, but apparently failed. A Moscow wireless claims' some success. (Received May 20, 12.20 a.m.) WARSAW, May 18. A communique announces that tlie Bolshevik attack in the Kieff region was repulsed. The Bolsheviks began the attack c with five divisions between the Dvina and Lopol Rivers.
LABOUR PROTEST AGAINST HOSTILITIES. (Received May 19, 11.45 u.m.) LONDON, May 18. Moderate ' Labourites, including Messrs Brace, Clynes, Crooks and Hodge, in a manifesto protest against the resumption of hostilities between Poland and Russia, demanding tfiat differences be submitted to tlie League ot Nations. 'The Dockers’ conference passed, a reso-lution-protesting against the export ot arms to Poland.
