A WANGANUI SENSATION. [Pur Pbicsb Aisooivno* TVANGANUI, May 16. A mysterious affair occurred on Saturday afternoon. A young man named Darcy Cresswell, aged twenty-four, who belongs to Timaru, and who arrived at Wanganui on a visit a few days ago, was conversing for sumo time with Mr C. E. Mackay, solicitor, at the latter’s office. Subsequently a chair was thrown through ;t. window and shots were heard. Cresswell was taken to the hospital with a bullet in the breast, and Mackay later on was brought before Justices and remanded till Monday, on a charge of attempted murder. Cressv ell is making satisfactory progress. Accused entertained Cresswell and a friend ait a local hotel on Tuesday evening. As accused is Mayor of the town, the incident has caused a sensation.
