At the Supreme Court to-day, Adam Murdoch M’Donald. manager of the Ormnglade station, near Roxburgh, was charged with the theft of some thirty sheep from neighbouring slieepowners. The evidence went to show that earmarks of sheep straying on the Orrnaglade station had been tampered with. The jury retired at 5 p.m. and returned at 10.40 p.m. with a verdict of guilty and a very strong recommendation to merev on account of the lax manner in which the earmarking of sheep in the district generally had teen carried out in the past; also on account of the non-observance of the regulations _ required bv law as to notifving neighbouring sheepowners of musterings, and also on account of the age and character of accused in the past. His Honor Mr Justice Sim said that, in view of the circumstances and the jury’s recommendation, he would be justified in imposing a pecuniary penalty. Accused would be fined £125, which was sufficient, to cower the expenses of the prosecution.
