Rich waited on tho council and asked it to give a, donation to help to send a. i\ew Zealand team to tiio Olympic Uames at Antwerp in August, and to appoint delegates to tho committee. Ho said, that it would cost about £3OO for each member of the team.

Mr Johnston moved that a resolution passed at tho previous meeting, that tho council could not seo its way to contribute, should bo rescinded. Tho motion was seconded by Mr Falck and carried, and it waa decide*! that tho sum o£ £lO 10a should ba contributed, tho sum to bo used towards menials the expenses of ono or moro Canterbury members of the toam. Mr Johnston was appointed tho council's representative on the committee.

The Auckland Automobile Association wrote in regard to the reported intended secession of the southern associations from the Mow Zealand Automobile Union. . The Pnparoa, County Council wrote stating that it had caused a joint inspection to bo made of the bridge at Tai Tapu, with a vioiv to decreasing the bridge's length by half. The Halowell County Council would be asked to carry out the work. The Paparua County Council would fill in about twentyfour feet of Wallace's Corner. The letter wan received. *».,,• The Resident Engineer -to the Public Work 3 Department wrote stating that the bridging and culverting of small creeks on the Otira-Kumara Road had been brfoujiit •under the notice of the Hokitika branch ot the association. Details were supplied ot the progress of work at different places. _ "Sir C.~ Pilkington, Akaroa, wrote complaining of the oppressive effects of the Municipal Corporations Act in regard to licensing public vehicles. A license issued by a borough for a vehiclo to .ply for hire was good tor only fivo miles from the borough. ITis vehicle?, travelling between Akaroa and Christchurch, passed"through the districts of fivelocal bodies. IE each local body enforced its rights, ho would have to talro out several licenses for ench vehicle and federal licenses for each driver. The question of licensing public vehicles should, be taken in hand at once, and the power should be given to ft local body to issue a license for tv radius of, snv. 210 miles. Ho hoped that the association would make representations to the Government, to have the present hardship removed. The letter was referred to the 33y-lan-s Commit tea. The Soldiers' Cur Committee reported that the car had made twenty-three trips during th<* nast month, had carried 144 men. and siad travelled 711 miles. Tt would go out commission on Mav 29. and the committer, recommended Hint the bodies interested should be in formed of that fact. The report was adopted.
