FIRE BOARD.
Tho Christchurch Fire Board mot last evening; present—Messrs H. P. Hopkins (in tho chair), F. Burgoyne, A. Williams, H. li. Rusbridge and J. R. Cameron. The action of a sub-committee in purchasing a section in Colombo Street, Sydenham, adjoining tho City Council yard, for £SOO, \va3 approved. Tho matter of procuring a supply of rub-ber-lined hoso from London was left in the hands of tho chairman and tho superintendent, with power to act. Tho City Council wroto in reply to & letter from tho hoard, drawing attention to tho necessity of reticulating the northern portion of St Albans, North Linwood, Avonsido, ■Opawa and St Martins, stating that _ there was no money available for the extension of tho water supply, and that nothing could be done until tho ratepayers ol the districts concerned consented to a loan being raised for tho purpose. A requisition from ratepayers in any of the districts mentioned, asking the council to take a poll for the purpose of raising a loan for providing high-pressuro water supply would bo favourably considered. Tho letter was received. It was decided to, hold a special meeting of the board to discuss proposod alterations and amendments to the board’s by-laws, gen. era.l instructions, rules and regulations. The doputy-superintendent reported that sinco tho previous meeting of the board tho brigade hRd received eight calls —three malicious false alarms, one hedge and four fires. Tho loss through fire amounted to £59, and insurance to £750, the estimated value of the property involved being £llsO. Tho report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £SGB 13s 9d were passed for payment.
