AMBERLEY EWE FAIR.

t RECORD PRICES. I Tlie Amberley ewe fair, one of the most important sheep sale fixtures in North Canterbury, took place yesterday. The yarding totalled 36,036, of which 85,036 were ewes, lambs afid 220 wethers. Last year tho entry was 49,469, and in 1918 about 35,000. iThere was a very large attendance and keen competition, ana bidding wa3 maintained from the start to tho finish of the sale, [•which occupied about six hours. Tho price for sheep of almost all agos soared in o remarkable manner, and constituted a record for Canterbury and. it is believed, for ,the whole Dominion. A lino of' '403 halfbred two-tooth ewes from Sir George Clifford’s. Stonyhurst flock topped the market at 68s each, «the purohaser being Mr C. P.oter, of Anama. The highest price for two-tooth last year was 42s Od for a line from Mr N. D. Campbell’s Glendhu estate. Other notable sales were:—For Mr D. Archibald, of Overshiels, two-tooth half-bred owes rt 635, four-tooth at 50a and six-tooth at 42b 6a. Special mention should also bo ftwde of Mr G. D. Greenwood’s soundtnouthod Corriedalos, which sold at 41s each, ■and the Mount Vulcan four-year-olds, whioh made 41s 9d each for a line of 776. A line of 631 half-bred owe lambs from the latter estate also brought the record price of 87s 6d each, Mr J.;C. Gibb, of Scargill, being (the purchaser. 'A small lino of two-tooth fewes from Messrs R. and J.
