Messrs R. Bell and J. Jackman left by the express for the south yesterday. Mr T. Bell, stationmaster at Ashburton, has received notice of his transfer to Invercargill. Foreman F. Clark triU represerit the Kaiapoi Volunteer Fire Brigade at the annual conference of the United Fire Brigades Association at Hastings.. A Press Association message froto Wellington states that Mr F. V. Fraser, S.M., has been appointed Acting Assistant Publio Service Commissioner. Mr W. F. Hilson, who has been acting secretary to the Board of Governors of St Andrew's College for the 'past six months, has been appointed to the position permanently. Dr T. J. Hughes, District Health Officer, is at present in Dunedin attending to departmental matters. He will probably arrive back in Christchurch to-day. Mr A. W. Eames, Official Assignee for the Canterbury District, will leave for the West Coast on Thursday morning, in order to mfake his annual in- ' spection of the deputy official assignees' offices in the West Coast district. Mr S. Phillips, of Adams and Phillips, will leave Christchurch shortly for Sydney, where he will join the Osterley: for Britain, i Mr will be absent from Christchurch about nine months, visiting England, France and America. The following have been elected iaa' members of the council of the New Zealand Sheep Breeders' Association (South Island), and will hold office for three years:—Sir George Clifford and Mr R. Reid, North Canterbury; Messr% O. N. Orbell and N. M. Orbell, South Canterbury; Messrs T. S. Little and John Deans, North Otago; Messrs J. Ross and H. V. Fulton, otagoj Mr J. M'Kerohar, Southland; Mr E. A. Weld, Marlborough.
