The Champion Plate, ran over a mile and a qnarter, 1 at • weight-for-age, should he an interesting event at Trentham to-day, when the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting will be concluded. With Gloaming all right, most p©opl© will b© content to look no further for the winner, as he- proved himself a champion over the distance when racing in Sydney this month. He will, however, be opposed by a represeritativ© field v so the race Bhould provide, a line as'to the season’s form in New Zealand and Australia.

Cerberuß will not fulfil his engagement at the North Canterbury and Oxford Jockey Club’s meeting to-day. Ee was scratched on Friday.

Among the Riccarton horses who will be racing at the North Canterbury and Oxford Jockey Club’s meeting to-day, Royal Star, Some Kid, Red Pool, 6>trath glass and Onslaught have been shaping well in their recent track work. The two-year-old colt Lucullan, who won the Taita Handicap at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday, claims imported parents, being by Lucullus, son of the Dferby winner, Ard Patrick, from Merry Nif, by Merry 'Hampton. Lucullus was bred in Germany, and was imported to New Zealand in 1914, bpt so far he has not had: many winners. Merry Nif had ten foals in the Dominion prior to Lucullan, the only one of note being General Latour, a useful performer and the sire of Mustard Pot, who is racing well this season. Lucullan was sold as a yearling for 62gs, but he showed such promise that he changed hands a few weeks ago, IOQOgs being quoted as the price paid for him. , .

Moorfowl registered a smart perfennance in winning the Wellesley Stakes at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday, as it was her first appearance in public, and she was meeting a number of North Island youngsters who had previous racing experience to assist tnem, Moorfowl is by Autumnus—Kirriemuir, so that she is a Bister to Royal Stag, who was narfbwly beaten in the same race last year, and who has since proved himself a useful performer- Moorfowl gave evidence before she left Riccarton ‘that die was a smart galloper.* She is a particularly handsome filly, and provided ■ she goes on all right she shows promise of being fax above the average. v

As a result of his win in the Wellington Handicap on Saturday, KiJ,rtish has incurred a 101 b penalty in the New Zealand Cup, bringing his weight up to 7st 181 b.

A dozen New Zealand Cup candidates were racing at Trentham on Saturday. Tjhe only one to win was Iviirush, while Vagabond and Bonnie Heather were placed in other events. The performances of' Kilrush and Vagabond were attractive, but most of the others will require to show great improvement to be worth much attention at Riccarton.

The Hawke’s Bay trainer, L. Wilson, is expected to arrive at Riccarton on Wednesday with a team of five horses to.;f ulfil engagements at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting.

Brackonfleld was much too good for a mate in sprinting half a mile in 50 2-ssec, Grim Joko beating Amaranth over the same ground in 51 1-ssec, whilo Mustard Pot took 55sec, going very comfortably. Achilledes did a working gallop over six furlongs, Hiero following with a similar task.

Wardancer and Warlove were, companions over a mile, Wardninoer drawing away in the last three furlongs and finishing an easy winner in lmin 45 l-ssec. Red Pool and Spyglass beat Bjomeborg by several lengths after running six furlongs in lmin 19soc. ’ - Royal Star, assisted by Starlike over tho Inst part, oovored nine furlongs in lmin 52 4-ssec, a useful effort, as ho finished well. Kilmoon and Killowen were associated oyer a mile, tho last seven furlongs occupying, lmin 32sec, with the pair oh even terms. _ Sundance and Catalini oovered a mile in lmin 49scc, and Treinena and St Winnow occupied lmin 20seo over six furlongs. Sunny Corner was too good for Counterstroke in a .half-mile sprint, run in 50 4-o sec. s Bombproof was a little better than Strayshot at the end of five furlongs, run in, lmin 6 1-osee. ■ Strathglass, with Steepholm as a mate over the last half-mile, covered five furlongs in lmin 5 1-Bseo, and Macduff ran a similar journey alone in lmin 3 S-ssee. , , Cerberus covered five furlongs in lmin - R-Ssee, finishing alongside E’pty Bolls, who joined in for the last half-mile. It was an attractive effort on the part of Cerberus, who is coming on nioolv. ADDINGTON NOTES. Saturday. The Addington track was in splendid order for fast work this morning, and the weather conditions were very favourable. There woro not many horses working, however, several regular attendants being on tneir way to Oamaru, to compete at that club a meeting on Monday. Rex Coronado and Irvingwood did a two mile go, but they were not fully extended. Both horses got through their tasks satis, factorily. George Hard, - who seems to be coming back slowly to his best form, wont a mile in harness at a solid pace, and pulled up . quite 1 Sound. . . ■■ . .. A. G. Wilson had Mintson and the trotter Rota Petor on the course,, the former being driven by his owner, and the trotter by . her trainer. They set out over a two milo jourI ney, the pacer being on the inside. EL* work out was not an impressive one, end he looked sore. Unless he shows a lot of improvement his chance of. success in the New Zealand Trotting Cup is not a good one. Rota Peter, moving along with her free and easy action, always seemed to have the measure of Mintson, and her showing was most attractive, despite the fact that one of tho sulky tyres punctured after about Half tfe journey was covered. Trix Pointer was not- asked to go fast, but the Cup candidate is looking vory fit and seemed to reli°h her task. Tho trotter Electrocute worked about two miles but did not move at top soeed, and was afterwards indulged in several sprints, trotting solidly throughout his work. Cora Dillon, in saddle, did several sprints and then naced a fast mile in rare good style. M’Dormott has this mare very well just now. , ■ Olive L. went a fast two miles, and although she did not seem to be trotting at her best, she cot over the ground in fast time. She made a couple of breaks in her work.

. The pony Schnapps, in saddle,'went, two miles at a useful speed. Ho put in a break a quarter of a mile from homo but quickly caught hi 3 frait again, Capriccio, who is standing up to her work without showing any signs of lameness, went two miles in harness very satisfactorily. The maro is some way off her best racing conBundura set out with Rearguard, and they wont on well together, the former going on alone for nearly another quarter. It was a’useful work-out. John Dillon was’ worked over a mile end a half, being .picked up over the last mile by Huon Patch, in saddle. The Cup horse paced vefy determinedly all the way and is looking bright and woll. The time was pood and John Dillon pulled up really well, after what must be considered a highly satisfactory performance. Huon Patch did not show to advantage in the work out.
