THE CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE.

DEPUTATION TO WELLINGTON.

The report prepared by the executive appointed to inquire into the distribution of railway services in Canterbury was submitted to a meeting of the committee held in tho City Council Chambers yesterday. The Mayor (Dr Thacker) presided. In his opening remarks the Mayor said that be hoped to have the coal from the West Coast in Christchurch on the following day. He had a telegram from the man who was managing the municipal coal supply on the W est Coast, which stated that everything was going on well, there being no shortage of labour. . , . Dr Thacker then dealt with the report. , , Mr H. Holland m’oved that a committee of citizens should be appointed to assist tho Railway Reparttncut duiinn; the period of restricted ramvav service, the committee, if appointed, to be known ns the Citizens Railway Transport Committee. _ The motion was carried. It was decided that tbe oommittoe should consist of nine members—the Mayor and two members each representing commerce, industry, labour and agriculture. Tt wne further resolved that tlie. Government be asked to provide a .central officio in the citv. also a railway oflfirinl to act as secretary to tbe committee. and such other clerical help as mi'wbt ho- found necessary.

Mr W. Goss moved that for the nurnose of delivery of woods from Lvttelton, Addington and Riceartou shoujd be treated a' Cbrist"hpr<-h. The motion was seconded by Mr Frostick and carried.
