At present the headquarters of the Y.M.C.A. at Wellington is the reposi- | torj" of many rare and interesting ! souvenirs of the. association’s Connection with the war, states the “Do- | minion,” and such is the accumulation i of material of all kinds that it is proposed to make a display in some central show window in the near future. Among the exhibits are the calico banners on which the men of certain sections recorded their thanks for special gifts made them by snecified towns or districts. These usually have a .heading which sets forth the name of the donating district, and scrawled below at every conceivable angle in ink pencil are the names V)f hundreds of soldiers and their addresses. These “ banners of gratitude ” are real spuyerirs, as in nearly every case they have been, in the trenches and under fire- In dub case two “Diggers” were killed whilst reading the names on one of these sheets as it hung outside a dug-out in the fire zone. One of these qua'int banners hears the heading, the “ Enzedders’ Rest.” One wag has added three alleged signatures to the genuine ones. These are “No. 99,999, Private W. F. Massey, the last man to leave”; “ N\a. 999,998, Private .Too Ward, last hut one to leave”: “Private Ja.mes Allen, the Man who Stayed at Home.” It is understood that these souvenirs are to be returned by the Y.M.C.A. to tho districts or towns named on the sheets. There’s no bettor food than DOCTORS’ CREAM O’ GROATS. Made in N.Z. Always pure and fresh. All Grocevs. 80
