COMING ELECTION.

THE NEW ELECTORATES. , REVISED ROLLS ALMOST READY. [From Oub Correspondent.] WELLINGTON, July 4. The Electoral Department is not going t'o be caught napping in the uncertainties of present-day politics- Its preparations for a general election are so forward that' within a few weeks it will be quite ready with new rolls covering the changes in boundaries effected by the Representation Commissioners in 1917. Owing to the changes in the incidence of population since. 1911, the Commissioners found that it was necessary, at the last revision, to take three seats from the South Island and give this amount of extra representation to tho North Island. The constituencies now represented by Messrs Hudson (Motueka), Dickie* (Selwyn) and R. Scott (Otago Central) were accordingly abolished. A very thorough rearrangement of boundaries in Otago resulted also in the disappearance of Bruce, which is now composed of a portion of Otago Central, and an area of the old Bruce electorate, and is now known as Tuapeka. In tho North Island the three new seats are Roskill, in the Auckland suburbs, Rotorua, running into Bay of Plenty, and Manawatu, on the West Const between Palmerston North and Wellington. These changes have necessitated great revision of the rolls, so as to transfer electors into their new areas.. The work has been under way for some time, the names have now been transferred, and within a few weeks the new rolls will be in the printers' hands. Tho new rolls may be regarded as "clean," owing to the very recent purging which preceded the special licensing poll. A further revision will, however, he secured through the process of notifying transfers of electors to new areas, as each elector will receive a notification of the transfer by post, directed to the address on the old roll. If the notification is returned by tho post office it will indicate a change of residence, and cause the, deletion of tho name from the roll. Electors who have been placed in a new electorate will thus receive an official notification but if they have changed their residence they should take the precaution of making a fresh enrolment.
