MONTHLY MEETING. "'' '•, N Tint monthly meeting of tho Society for tho .Prevention'-o£ Cruelty to Animals was. held-last evening, Mr J. O. Jameson occupying- tho chair, Tho inspector reported that ho had visited tho following places during tho month: New Brighton, Lyttolton, Ello'smere, Lceston, Kangiora, Kaiapoi, Belfast, Sumner, - Sockburn, ' Invell, Southbridgo, Woodend, Islingtou and Yaldhurst. Also all horse and poul- - try saks in tho city and tho recent Poultry Show-in Chfistclmreh. Stock aaljjs at' Addington, Kangiora, and Sprmgatort and the recent trotting meeting at SockbuTii were also visited. Ho had visited the slaughter houses at ■ Eangiora, Woodend, Kaiapoi • and Southbridgo. An injured heifer at Addmgton ealeyards had been destroyed at his request and three badly injured'dogs which had boen run over in the streets, wero taken to the Animals' Home, two being destroyed and one being saved. Four horses had been ' destroyed outside of the home. A dealer in the city and a dairy tanner were cautioned for withholding food irom a horse, and with neglectmg to supply pigs with food respectively. A butcher had been cautioned for working a horse with sores, also a .pastrycook and a farmer for working a draught horso in yoke to a heavy load, without shoes. Two cautions were riven for using overhead check-roins on horses in tho city streets. The Tcport was adontcd. _ It was decided to take action against several persons for ill-treating animals. The inspector reported a case of an animal being sent to Lyttolton for consignment to the North Island in a crate which was considered too small for the purpose, particularly as tho animal would probabjy have to remain in tho crato for a -fortnight or three weeks. . .The matter waa lefts.in tho hands of the chairman and tho inspector with authority to take proceedings against the owner.
