SCHOOL OF MINES.
MORE BURSARIES ADVOCATED. [Pee Peess Association.] DUNEDIN, Juno 4. A deputation representing the School of Mines waited on- tho Hon W. D. S. MacDonald to-day, and urged that the Department of Mines should offer, say, ten bursaries of £SO each, with lees for students living away from home. It was pointed out that at the end of the course it meant that the country would have a claim ou the services of these students. The deputation also suggested that better use should be made of the staff which was investigating mining problems and of the assistance provided by which Professors Park, Waters and Berison would be able to do something regarding research into mining problems of the country. _ The Minister expressed agreement with the deputation Last year, he stated, only one man had won a bursary. If 1 16 *' lo power to do what was asked, he was prepared to ask. his colleagues to vote what was necessary. The country could well afford to have a thorough expert examination of the mineral resources.
