(Abridged from Press Association.) LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Wednesday, October 30. AFTERNOON SITTING. The Council met at 2.30 p.rn.) Tho Hon E. W. Alison moved tho Ad-dress-in-Reply. He referred with satisfaction to tho statement of Mr Balfour that Empire communications would bo safeguarded, and emphasised the need for every effort on the part of tho community to shoulder the financial burden of the war. Tho repatriation problem was most important, and a special department should be created to deal with it
The Hon A. Hawko seconded the motion. Tho most important problem requiring solution was provision for returned soldiers. He suggested tho formation of civilian committees. To deal with tho cost of living he suggested municipal dwellings, to be sold at tha cheapest rate. Also the formation of co-operative associations by trade unions and Civil servants.
Sir John Sinclair spoko of the need for preparation for post-war trade by increasing efficiency to the highest point.
