AN INDEMNITY.
SUGGESTED CLAIM FROM GERMANY.

WELLINGTON, October 30.
Replying to Mr Luke, in tho House of Representatives this afternoon, the. Prime Minister said ho would be glad to submit to Cabinet a proposal that New Zealand should claim an indemnity from Germany for losses during tho war, but ho was emphatically of opinion that not all the money in Germany could adequately compensate New Zealand for tho fifteen thousand young men who had lost their lives in tho war. He noticed that Australia was taking some steps in the direction of claiming compensation from Germany, and ho would bo glad to give tho matter consideration. .

In tho Assembly Mr A. G- Manning gavo notice to move that no peace would bo acceptable to Australia which did not provide that Germany must recoup the Commonwealth for tho whole of Australia’s war expenditure.
