Mr S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Two iirsc ofteaders were each lined ss, with the usual alternative, on charges of drunkenness. Walter Rugg, a lim'd oft'eucler, was fined 20s, in (lefn alt seven clays' imprisonment, on a cli.irge of drunkenness. frank Augustus Fitzgeorge, cliarged with prominng liquor and entering an hotel while prohibited, was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment, on the first charge. 'William Poninghaus (Mr Ouningham) pleaded guilty to entering licensed premises while prohibited. Mr Cuningham said that accused went into the hotel to look for a man. Accused was convicted and fined £lO.

On the application of Emma Cox (Mr Hill;, Sidney Cox (Mr Hunter) was ordered to pay £1 per week towards the maintenance of his wife and two children, and was granted leave to see the children once a week.

Jack Harwood was ordered to pay expenses, £lO 10s, in connection with the birth of his stillborn illegitimate child, at the rate of £1 per week. On the application of Paulino Mathias (Mr Carney), William De Renzi Mathias was convicted of disobedience of a maintenance order, arrears amounting to £6 12s. A sentence of one month's imprisonment was imposed, no warrant to issue tall applied for. Alfred Edward Laney, who was charged with disobedience of an order requiring him to maintain his child, arrears amounting to £5 7s 6d, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, no warrant to issue till applied for. John Anderson (Mr Malley) pleaded guilty to a charge of being found on the premises of the Imperial Hotel after closing hours A hue of 10s and costs was imposed. Ernest William Baillie and John Niven, similarly charged, were similarly dealt with. ' '

William Phillips, barman at tho Prince of, Wales Hotel, was charged with supplying liquor to a youth under twenty-one years of age. Robert William Powell, licensee of the hotel, was similarly charged. Mr Hoban appeared tor both defendants, and said that the defence was that the young man who was served was apparently over the age of twenty-one years. After evidence had been"heard, and the youth in question had been inspected by the Magistrate, both defendants were convicted, Phillips being fined £5 and Powell being convicted and discharged. RANGIORA. Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court at Rangiora yesterday. For failing to attend dril, C. Little ■was fined 40s and costs; J. Laskey, K. Parfitt, P. D. Middleton, W. F. Hulme, E. H. Doggett, W. B. Rossiter, L. Dench and C. H. Wyatt were each fined 20s and costs; G. F. Heney, 10s and costs, and S. Graham was convicted and discharged. Judgment by default was given in H. M. Hawkins and Co. (Mr Van Asch) v. H. Murfitt, jun., for a claim of £6 14s Id; s-tno v. T. Cherry. £3 7s 6d, anu S. Suarp v. E. Trustrum, claim £2 lis 2d. Costs were given in each case.
