KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Kaiapoi Borough Council met last evening, Councillor Doubleday presiding, i-n the absence of the Mayor. There wore also present—Councillors 11. Macintosh, J. Bryden, J. Barnard, A. Blakeley, L. B. Evans, L, O. B> Fuldsolh. The Public Hea.th Department wrote, stating that its inspector had inspooted the b-nvurii public school’s water supp.y u-i.a drainage system. The letter was received. The Kaiapoi Volunteer Fire Brigade’s application for a grant of 25s for a five years’ service modal for Fireman Gilson, on ac.ive service, was granted. Hall and Long, Timaru, wrote, stating that they could not undertake an inspection and report on the Gam Bridge. The letter was received. Tho Reserves Commit;ee reported on the borough’s reserves at Ashburton, and the report was adopted. In answer to an inquiry from tho Public Works Electrical Department the Lighting Committee recommended that the Department should pay the claim of Mr W. Aiidiorson for £lO, compensation for injuries received by a collision with wires during construction work. The finance report showed receipts amounting to £146 10s id, and a debit balance of £315 Os Id. Tho expenditure was £B6 11s 3d. The Reserves Committee reported that tho firewood cu’ting contract at the beach was finished, 142 J cords of woed being obtained. A request from the contractor for a 10 per cent bonus was granted. The desirability of converting the old fire rf-tion into a taxi stand was' referred to the Works Commi’teo. A motion of sympathy wrth Councillor Dunn, on the death of his mother, was carried.
