The Navy League War Fund Committce met last night; present—Mr H. J Marriner (chairman), Lieutenant* Colonel H. S. Batchelor, Captain J. A. ,H. Marciel, Professor T. G. RBlunt and Messrs A. C. Maxwell, RBadger, S.- Orchard, F. W. Jones, FE. Jones, J. B. Laurenson, D. Crozier, A. S.‘ Clarkson, J. O. Jameson, J'. L - Dougall, W. E. D. Bishop and M. Steeds. The chairman, Professor Blunt and Mr Dougall were appointed a committee to wait on tho editors or local newspapers and ask them to help tho campaign, and the chairman and Messrs Maxwell and Badger were appointed to communicate with country business firms. It was decided to ask the managers of picture shows to allow, speakers to give short addresses at entertainments. The Organising Committee was authorised to make arrangements and to ask the Women’s National Reservo and the Women’s Aux- 'i iliary to arrange for lady collectors. An appeal prepared by tlie president (Mr A. Boyle) was approved. Tho _ Automobile" Association wrote offering to help in transporting arrangements to the West Coast and other districts. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the association. The chairman said that all tho heads of Churches approached had agreed to set aside a t Sunday for the appeal. The appeal would begin on October 21 (Nelson Day), and would closo on November 4. The great day in Christchurch would bo November 1. It was decided that the special appeal in the theatres should begin on October 81i ensu tinus for ona week.
