A POPULAR OFFICIAL

PRESENTATION TO MR T. QUEALY.

BY WAIRETWA COUNTY RESIDENTS.

A pleasant ceremony took place at the annual meeting of the Banks Peninsula Agricultural and Pastoral Association held at Little River on Tuesday, when a presentation was made to Mr T. Quealy, late engineer and clerk to the Wairewa County Council.

Mr J. V. Chapman, chairman of the council, said that they all knew Mr Quealy as a capable and trustworthy worker in the interests of the district. It was largely due to Mr Quealy’s efforts that the splendid Awa Iti Domain was secured to the people of Little River. He had much pleasure in asking Mr Coop, as the oldest member ot the council, to make the presentation. Mr J. O. Coop stated that lie had worked with Mr Quealy in the old Road Board days. Mr Quealy’s service to the district had extended over a term of thirty-eight years, and during that long period Mr Quealy bad never missed a meeting. It. had been largely due to Mr Quealy’s efforts that the Waihora Park at Motukarara and the domains at Kaituna and Little River had been obtained. Mr Quealy had a’so served in the honorary capacity of secretary to the Akaroa Racing Club, and also a 6 secretary of various patriotic societies. When Mr Quealy was first appointed engineer, there was hardly a road in the district; but, as they all knew, this was much altered now, thanks largely to his efforts. Mr Coop said he had much pleasure in asking Mr Quealy to accept an illuminated address from ratepayers _ and friends in the district in recognition of his valuable services. Mr W. F. Parkinson stated that he had known Mr Quealy for about forty years, and had a high opinion of his capabilities and trustworthiness. He hoped that Mr Quealy’s activities ir the interests of the district would continue for many years. Mr J. F. Buchanan stated that he would also like to add his appreciation of Mr Quealy’s long and faithful services. He had known Mr Quealy fo v many years, and was much indebted to him for assistance in many ways. He hoped that Mr Quealy would long enjoy the respect which he had earned.

Messrs T. Thompson, H. T. Chapman. J. Johnson, F. Coop, G. Barclay, T. White, jun., and W. Jacobson also endorsed tho remaks of the previous speakers. Mr Quealy suitably responded.
