THE COLLEGE.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS. The Bpard of Governors of Canterbury College mot yosterday afternoon; present—M.r H. D. Aclsnd (chairman), Dean Harper, anu Messrs T. W. Adams L. M. leitt, M.P., W. Brock, G. T. Booth, S. G. Raymond, A. E. hiowor, T. H. Davoy, H. Boyd 1 , L. B. Wood and S. Hurst Soagor. The chairman welcom'd Mr S. Hurst Seager on his return to New Zealand. A motion of sympathy with Mr C. H. Op’ie in the death of hri ron was carried unanimously, members standing. Messrs Acland, Brock, Flower and J. C. Adams wore appointed to tho Board of Management of tho Women Students’ Hostel. The special committee set up to consider the appoinunent of a rector was disbanded, tho chairman remarking that nothing was likely to be done in the matter until after the war.

The Registrar of tho New Zealand University wrote, covering copies of correspondence on tho subject of the interchange of professors and students with British Universities. The matter was referred to the College Committee.

The Museum and Library Committee reported, recommending that a resolution or sympathy should be conveyed to the relatives of the late Mr Henry Suer, and reporting! that it had approved of the appointment or Professor A, Wall as honorary curator of the Museum Herbarium, and had made a grant of £2O for the current year and £3O for 1919, towards tho expenses of oolloction. Tho committee had asked the curator to submit for the guidanco of the oommitteo, at its next, meeting’, a rough sketch plan of his proposals for enlarging the Museum buildings. The report was adopted.

The College Committee reported, recommending that the tender of Mr J. Dewsbury, of £356 for electric light connections at the College, should be accepted; that the following regulation (a) in connection wi h the College Library, passed by the board on June 24, 1918, should be amended by tho addition of the words “ or tho chairman of the Professorial board”: “That any person engaged in special inquiry or research may borrow books from the College Library when permission is l granted by the chairman of the Board ot Governors.” The committee reported that it had appointed a to interview Professor Scott on tho matter of the installation of a modified scheme for heating, lighting and power at the College. The report was adop'ed.

The officer commanding the Boys’ High School Cadet Corps wrote, applying for a grant of £SO to' assist the purchase of four cornets for tho Buglo Band, to bring 'he band on a footing with other similar bands in the city. The request was granted. The board t hen went into committee to consider financial matters, and on resuming adjourned.
