ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FOUND DROWNED. An inquest was held at Lyttelton on fcyaturuay by tuo Coroner, Mr H. \V. Bishop, on tho body of 'lhomas MitcJioll, lishorman, sixty-eight years of age, who tho previous day had been found drowned in the harbour alongside No. 7 wharf. Constable Hodgins stated that Mitchell was a steady and sober man. Witness was of opinion that tho deceased must have attempted to go down by the ladder leading to a public convenience. Joseph James Murray, labourer, and Stanley Johnson, fisherman, also gave evidence, both stating that, in their opinion, the ladder which .deceased appeared to have descended, was dangerous. The Coroner returned a verdict of found drowned. Last evening George Alexander Green, igcd twenty-three, a resident at 8, Brougham Street, Sydenham, was admitted to the Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound in his left root, sustained accidentally while cleaning a double-barrelled shot-gun. An operation was performed, and late last night tho | patient was reported to be making favourable progress. George Brooks, a boy nine years ot * ago. residing at Leeston, foil while carrying a razor yesterday, afternoon, and cut his left hand very severely. He was lirought to Christchurch in a motor-car and was admitted to the Hospital.
