GREEN TICKET IN THE LEAD.
At noon on Saturday the positions of the various competing districts in the Tramway Copper Trail wero as follow : I—Green ticket: Spreydon, Riccarton, Lincoln Road, Coronation Street. 2—White ticket: Marshland, Cranford Street, Edgewaro Road. 3—Pink ticket: Opawa, St Martins, Cashmere, Sydenham. 4—Yellow ticket: Fendalton, Papanui. s—Buff ticket: Sumner, Lyttelton, Heathcoto, Woolston. 6—Blue ticket: .North and South Brighton, Dallington, Bromley and Liu wood. WALKING MATCH. There was a revival of a popular oldtime sport in Christchurch on Saturday afternoon in the walking match from Papanui to Cathedral Square. The contest was held on behalf of the Tramway Copper Trail effort for the Lady Liverpool Fund.' There were iiftcen entrants, but only four faced the starter. Tho competitors lined up at the Papanui Supply Stores soon after 2.30 o'clock, and were dispatched amid cheering from a fairly large gathering of spectators. The contest was keen, and there was very little between the four walkers at the tape. The result was as follows: F. J. Leggett, scr _ . - 1 F. H." Patterson, lmin . 2 T. Plumsky, lmin' . . 3 Q. iSutton, lmin , . 4 Tho distance, three miles, was traversed in exactly 25 minutes, a good performance. The officials wero:—Starter, Mr R. Patrick; judge. Mr S. Alpe; handicanper Mr F. Bell; secretary, .Mr E. Orchard.
