SEQOND- CANTERBURY BOARD AT OHRISTCHURCH.

'The Second Canterbury Military Borneo Board sat at Christchurch yesterday; present—Messrs H. W. Bishop (chairman), M. •G. Rich and ,1. T. Eldriflge. Major Gresson was tho military representative. lie appeal of Miller Bros, on behalf of Magiius Smith (Mr Andrews), shipwright, Lyttelton, was referred to the Efficiency Board. The appeal of Albert Crozier (Mr Gresson), dairy farmer, Marshland, was referred to the First Canterbury Board. In the following cases sine dio adjournments were granted :—Edwin James Hanham (Mr Johnston), sanitary employee; James Henry Reeves, J/nke Coleridge electrical fitter; John Aitchison, slaughterman, Christchurch; . Charles Leslie Lunt, fruitgrower, Christchurch; Frederick Charles M'Donald, warehouseman, Christchurch, the last of five brothers serving;. Russell Frederick Stenson, a soldier on home service, Lyttelton, whose mother appealed on the ground that her other son had been killed in the war; and Morello Andrews, Government wool valuer.

George Cheviot Qsborn (Mr Gresson), surveyor, was appealed for by Frederick Willie Freeman, employer, who stated that eight trained surveyors had enlisted from his office, and appellant was the only one left. The hoard stated that it would offer no objection to appellant entering the Flying School for service in the aviation branch. Appellant was allowed' until August 28. The appeal of Frederick H. Blanche (Mr Hunt); farmer, Motukarara, was dismissed.

In the undermentioned coses time was allowed as follow:—July 29 James David Beattie, french polisher; Thomas John Long, shearer, Ohristchurch; Gervys Lester Holt-Harris, saw expert. Christchureh. July 30—Vincent D. Smith, farmer, Christchureh. August 32—Frederick William Beckett (Mr Malley), engineer, Christchureh. August 26—William Edward Clarke (Mr Rows), merchant tailor; Ro'iert Harvey Clark, Canterbury Frozen Meat Company's staff. September 9—Joseph Richard Smalley (Mr Cassidy), farmer, y.i'dhurst.

In the following oases the appeals were dismissed, and time allowed as stated:—July 29 George Henry Curtis (Mr Malley), labourer. Styx; Henry Baker, grocer's assistant, classed ,C 1; John Harding Hanmett (Mr Taylor), builder. Aucmst 12—Arthur Rotrmald Myers (Mr Johnston), farmer, Chrisifcchurch; Ronert Thomas Coulter (Mr L. A. Doucall), mechanical dentist; George Evans, wool-worker, Christchurch. The. appeals of Dongtaa Henry Dav (Christchureh) and John Stubberfield, cycle mechanic (Christchureh), on conscientious grounds, were dismissed. There was no appearance of the following reservists, and their appeals were also" dismissed: —Leonard A rtlinr Cade, carpenter, Christchureh; Wilkinson Arthur Drayton, electrical engineering apprentice, . Christchureh : and Charles William Johnson, flaxmill hand, Belfast.
