BOROUGH COUNCILS.
NEW BRIGHTON. A meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council was held last evening; present—the Mayor (Mr F. Kibblcwhite), and Councillors Winny, Leaver, Buxton, Israelson, Siucock. Browning and Christian. A motion of sympathy was passed to the relatives of tho late Mr Palmar, an old resident of the borough, and to Mir and Mrs C. Bides in the death of their son, Private A. Rides, who was killed in action. A letter was received from tho Department advising the. council that the Harbour Board stated that it had no objection to inpreasing the area proposed to be leased for the marine salt works from one hundred to two hundred acres, subject to the condition that the works aro commenced within twelve months from date of the license to occupy the site. Tho matter was left in tho hands' of the Mayor, Councillors Winny and Christian. The Minister of Internal affairs wrote enclosing a letter from the Prime Minister dealing with tho matter of revaluations of the borough. A letter from tho secretary ‘of the North Brighton Burgesses’ Association drawing the attention of the council to the need for some improvement to Osborne Terrace was referred to the Works Committee. An application to move an old building from the city to New Brighton was refused, and it was resolved that, in future no permits will be granted for removal of old buildings to New Brighton. A letter from the Surf Club dealing with bathing by-laws was referred to the By-laws Committee with power to act. The Superintendent bf Pohco wrote regarding breaches of by-laws. The letter was received as also was one dealing with telephone connection at the police station. The Tramway Board wrote informing the council that it had decided to vote £7O towards the erection of conveniences at. North A deputation from tlie South Brighton Association waited upon tho connoil with reference to , matters at South B if'was' decided to call tenders for the North Brighton public conveniences inlineA recommendation by the Fire Brigade Committee that M!r .Tames Bellamy should bo appointed engineer to the fire brigade was adopted. . , The treasurer's renoTt showed receipts to have been £382 10s lid. and expenditure £253 2-i 4d. Four building permits had been issued during the fortnight, the sum involved amounting to £1075. The credit balance at the bank was £3® 13s lid, and temporary loans account was in debit £1785.
