BRISTOL CUP CHALLENGE MATCH,

WON BY KAI TOA CLUB, TIMABU.

The 'third contest this sca«on for tho muchcoveted honour' of holding the valuable challenge cup which was presented by the laic Mi- Bristol, one of South Canterbury s earliest and most esteemed pioneers, took p ace yesterday on tho Ashburtou Domain bowling green. The Ashburton players visaed Timaru in the early part of the season, and after ono of the keenest and most close.ycontosted matches over played on the limaru Club's green took the cup back with them. Quite recently the Park Club (Timaru) visited Ashburton with tho object of trying to tak« the trophy back to Timaru, but failed, the Ashburton Club gaining an easy vicSpecially keen interest was taken in tho match vesterdav, as the Kai Toa team were supposed to be a much stronger combination than the Park Club playors. The Kreen, owing to 27J points of rain having fallen in the earlv hours of the morning, was a bit dead, but this was all in favour of the visitors. The score at tho seventh head was:—Ashburton 53, Kai Toa 48. Kai Toa then gradually crept into the lead, and at tho fourteenth head was 103 to Ashburton's 101. Kai Toa held its pdvantage to the finish, and won tho match by 15S to 147. , _, Mr G. J. Sealy, ou behalf of tho Timaru players, thanked Ashburton for the hospitality which had been cxtendod to the visitor*, and said thev were naturally ploasoo. at taking tho Bristol cup back to it* birthplace. At the same time ho gave the Ashburtou Club a hearty invitation to visit Timaru again and try to win the cup. Mr J. Lane briefly responded. The scores are as follow: Ashburton-W.
