The summer meeting of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club will be held on New Year’s Day, when liberal stakes will be distributed for events which should attract all tho best performers from local stables. Nominations will closo to-night at eight o’clock. W. Kerr, in charge of President Wilson, and J. Bryce, with a big team undor bis care, left for the north last night, to fulfil engagements at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting. , A. M’Aulay has mado a start for tho West Coast with several horses, who will carry tho colours of Mr A. W. Rutherford, jun., at the Roefton, Greymouth and Hokitika meetings.

Sasanof appears to have struck form in Sydney. Following up his win over six furlongs early this month at Canterbury Park, he wou the chief event at Rosehill, run over a mile and a quarter. Carrying top weight and starting favourite, he came _ with a brilliant run in the straight, just getting up in tirno to win by a head from tho imported horse, Cbautemerle, to whom ho was conceding 31b. Sweet. Corn again let her supporters down at the Rosehill meeting this month. Air W. G. Stead’s Australianbred maro started favourite in the Clydo Stakes, but she failed to show up at any stage of tho journey, tho race being won by Poitrina, by Tho Welkin from the New Zealand mare Arm'igera.

Training operations at Riccnrton woro conducted under very pleasant conditions vosterday morning. With n number of horses absent in the south, however, there was not much excitcmonfc about the proceedings. R. <T. Mason gave his team strong pace work. Thames strode out over a mile, but was not fully extended, while Lovesick was allowed to run along over five furlongs. Tho two-year-olds, Eleus and Indus, did three-quarter pacing over a circuit. Lionskin ran half' a mile under & pull, Heathercoto covering tho same ground. at a leisurely gait. They both look very well.

Comely was sent along nearly at top over five fur ongs. while Ivilrea sprinted half a mile and Kilalla three furlongs. F. R. Jones will take this trio south later in tho week, picking up other members of bis tonm at Tininru for tho trip to Wingatui and Oamam.

• Kilkeo did a strong working gallop over six furlongs, Gallupin covering seven and Achilledes five furlongs, but they were not fully extended. Partisan got through a useful task over seven furlongs, while Killjoy rau six, going comfortably.

Bondage moved in good style in a couple of sprints over three furlongs. She is growing into a nice filly. Red Book went in bis best stylo in a spin over six furlongs. Ho bears a greatly improved appearance. Wardnncer rattled over half a mile, his effort being easily the best of the morning. The brother to Warstep looks well at present.

A M’Aulay gave his team short sprints, in which they all moved along freely.

There will soon he a big exodus from Riccarton, as the horses under orders for the West Coast will have to start on their journey during tho next few days. _______ KAIKOURA RACING CLUB.
