CARNIVAL OF MERRIMENT.
The Carnival of Merriment in aid of St Mary’s (Manchester Street) Schools attracted a very large attendance to tho Colosseum on Saturday evening. The various side-shows were well patronised nnd brisk business was done at the stalls and stands, which were rapidly depleted of their contents. An enjoyable programme of musical items and dances was presented and met with much approval. The carnival will be continued this evening, when the attractions will include a number of “winter time” parts by the pupils of Miss Adams, such as skating girls, snowballing, and so on. There will also be an Italian dance, skirt dance, Chinese dance and Scotch dance. To-morrow evening thero will be a special jockey dance, as a compliment to the winuing jockeys in the New Zealand Cup and Trotting Cup, who are to be presented by Sir George Clifford with whips ns soqvpnirs of'the carnival.
