ORGAN RECITAL.
The attendance at the patriotic org-an recital given in His Majesty’s Theatre last night by the city organist, Dr J.. C-. Bradshaw, was prohablv a record of its hind, for long before the ’time for commencing the performance not a spare seat was to be had in the big building. The vocalist of the evening was Mrs John Fraser, of Oaninru. The proceeds, by collection, are to bo devoted to the Patriotic and Red Cross Funds, and the amount realised was just over £3l, Dr Bradshaw’s contributions were J. S. Bach’? Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, the larghctto movemont from Mozart's charming Clarinet Quintet, the allegro vivaco from Widor’s No. 9 Organ Symphony, the “Love Song” from. Tauhert’s incidental music to “ The Tempest,” the well-known Prelude to the third act of Wagner's " Lohengrin,” the Bridal Music from the same onera, and W. T. Best’s Church. Festival March in D Major. In the interpretation and execution of this fine selection of music Dr Bradshaw excelled, and gave an exposition of artistic playing which was thoroughly appreciated. Mrs Fraser's vocal contributions were Mendelssohn’s solo for soprano, “ Hear Ye, Israel,” from the oratorio “Elijah,” and Spenks’s nnpealling composition, “ The Lord is My Light.” Mrs Fraser sang expressively and with excellent voice ouaditv. The organ accompaniments played by Dr Bradshaw added to the beauty of production.
