CLAUSE NINETEEN TO BE MODIFIED. i ' . At a publio meeting in the Choral Hall on Monday evening a motion was passed protesting against the powers proposed to be given to the Minister of .Public Health by clause 19 of the Social Hygiene 13.11. The Mayor, who presided, sent a acpy of the motion to the Hon G. W. Russell, who has replied as follows: "■ I have noted the terms of the resolution and am glad to know that the. Bill was supported, with the exception of clause 19 which I intend to modify when the Bill is in committee." THE MINISTER'S AMENDMENTS. [Fbom Otm ConßEsroifDTOT.] WELLINGTON, October 18. Th e Minister of Public Health has given notice to move amendments to the Social Hygiene Bill, substituting "detention hospital" for "prison wherever it appears in the measure. It also is proposed to add to clause 7, which prescribed that a person whoso case is investigated by a local Advisory Board shall also have the right to be m-dically ebamined by one or more medical practitioners nominate.! by himself. Cause 20, providing that persons suffering from v-ncrnil disease, shall, undergo treatment, is modified by specifying that treatment shall be as indicated by a practi.joinr instead oi b'ing at least onc e monthly.
