ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

THROWN FROM TRAP. Nancy Watson, aged six years, residing with ‘her parents at Annat, was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital last evening suffering from a dislocated hip and severe bruises. Tho girl, with her father, was driving in a trap when a calf in a. neighbouring paddock forced its way through a fence and startled the horse, which bolted and upset the trap. The father escaped injury. ,

ACCIDENTALLY DROWNED. An inquest was held at Tenuikn on Friday evening into the death of Mrs W. Bowie by drowning in the Opihi. Mr J. Blyth acted as Coroner, v W. Bowie, farmer, Seadihvn, stated that Mrs Bowie left home for Tomukg about ten o’clock on Thursday morning in a gig. She said she would cross at the lower ford. She had never crossed that ford before. About 2 p.m. the' horse and gig returned to tho, houso, the gig empty of rug and cushions. On inquiring he heard her body had been found in tho Milford Lagoon. 0. Williams, farmer, Milford, stated that he found the body floating down the river. A verdict was returned that deceased was accidentally drowned.

Thomas Cornish, a casual railway labourer) was injured at Lyttelton on Saturday morning, his leg being badly crushed. Cornish was engaged in loading a motor-car on a railway truck and was standing in tho truck when it was violently bumped by another truck which bad boon shunted along the same rail. The impact threw the car against him. jamming Iris leg. He was removed to the Casualty Ward for treatment. Miss A. O. Chambers, a resident of Rose Street. Spreydon was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital on Saturday afternoon suffering from severe injuries to one of her legs, the result of an accident. Subsequently tho lee: was amputated, and at a late hour last night Miss Chambers was reported to be progressing favourably.
