In the course of a discussion this afternoon Dr Thacker drew the Post-master-General's attention to the insanitary and inadequate state of the chief post office and High Street office at Christchurch, and desired to know if it was proposed to do anything to remedy the position. | Sir Joseph Ward replied that the question of buildings in Christchurch and other parts of the country must bo dealt with in the Public Works Statement. In his opinion, however, the present was not the time for thij country to undertake the erection of costly buildings, as the first call on the finances would be to pay what was required for war purposes
