Sorg-eant), reporting on the shipping returns of the port for the month of October stated that the gross tonnage of arrivals was 267,476, mid the not tonnage 160,765. Compared with the corresponding period of last years, the returns showed «. decrease of 42 vessels, and an increase ot 874 gross tons and lG7f> net tons. The departures showed « decrease of 25 vessels and 9080 gross tons and 8488 net tons. The Manukau harbour returns shewed Unit, the arrivals numbered tho same as in October of last yenr, but there was a decrease in tonnage of 984 gToss and 570 net, while departures had increased by four vessels j and 927 gross and 432 net tons.
