COUNTY COUNCILS.
,- AKAROA. 'Hie annual meeting of the Akaroa County " Council was held at Duvauehelle on Wednesday; present—Messrs .1. D. Bruce, E Ha v. ; , F. Williams, T. Conway, and ,7. and C. L Tha-cker. , . , , Mr J. Thacker was elected chairman, and i Messrs Bruce, Williams and C. Thacker 'were ' elected a- Finance Committee. ■ Correspondence was received from the Mayor of Christchurch regarding recruiting for the reinforcements. It was decided to reply that,a thorough canvass of the Peninsula had been made recently, resulting in a large number of volunteer?. The Treasury wrote notifying payment of subsidy on rates collected (£574 17s). Mr Bradley forwarded - seeds for tree planting on road*. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Bradley, and the seeds were distributed amongst tho members. It was decided to grant six weeks' leave to ' the council's men for tho cocksfoot harvest. Mr Bruoe reported that Mr Tcrnplcr had visited the Peninsula regarding the rcticula- • tion and would pay another visit. Mr Hay r drew attention to certain bad corners on 1 tie Summit Road. It was decided to have the matter attended to at once. 1 The following were appointed to represent the different parts of the Peninsula ' on the Patriotic Association:—W'ainui, 1 Messrs Conway and. Donovan; Okain's. Messrs Mason and M'lntosh; Le Bon's, Mr Thacker; Akaroa, Messrs Bruce and Williams; Duvaucheile, Mr Wilkin. Accounts amounting to £69 la 3d were passed for payment. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Bruce, tho retiring chairman, for the good work dono for several years.
