CHRISTCHURCH RETURNS. j GROWTH OF POPULATION. The tabulating of the schedules, of the recent census for Christchurch City was completed yesterday, and the actual figures are appended below. Tt. will be noticed that the number of males has actually decreased,' but the increase of females enables a gross improvement of 2273 to be recorded in the population of the city area. Tho following tables show the comparative returns of population in the census taken in April, 1911, and in this year’s census, of Christchurch City and neighbouring boroughs. It must be remembered that, since last census Opawa lias been added to tbe city area, which accentuates tho decrease in the male population of the city. OpaWk figures were, males 423, females 467, total 890.' The comparative increases in population of -these outsi.de districts cannot be given, as the areas under the respective names were not the same areas as; in 1911.
