RED CROSS FUND.

SYDENHAM MEN’S BRANCH. Tho annual meeting of the Sydenham Men’s Red Cross Branch was held on Thursday evening, Mr C. Clark presiding. The annual report stated that on October 20, 1915; a meeting was addressed by Messrs Flesher and Gresson regarding Red Cross work, and it was agreed by those present to form a. men’s committee to collect funds for tho Sydenham Ladies’ Red Cross Branch. The district was divided into four sections, ■which has since been canvassed by the various subcommittees, rftid the collectors have made monthly visits to the many subscribers, with very satisfactory results The whole of the district was eventually taken charge of by Mr J. Mtmday, whose energy, coupled with the willing helpers under his supervision, resulted in the amount of £>>2l 3a 6d Jha/ving been collected. Waltham had now been included in the Sydenham dislnot, and the results so far were very promising. Twelve meetings had been held during the year, and had been fairly well attended, but the committee would be pleased to have the help of a few more collectors, whereby the funds could bo greatly augmented. The money collected, with the exception of the balance in hand, had been handed over to tho ladies’ committee, whose great achievement in making nearly 19,000 articles for the wounded spoke for itself. Not one penny of the money collected lias been spent. for printing circulars, potty cash,, or any item whatsoever. During the year the following articles had been made:-148 pairs pyjamas, 138 shirts, 111 shorts, 377 socks, 174 pants, 2532 handkerchiefs, 1364 faceclpths, 16 pairs operation stockings, 8 pairs knee cap*, 2 pairs pyjama girdles, 45 draw* sheets, 48 mattress covers, 333 vests, 88 slings, 88 balaclavas, 233 bed jackets, 91 waistcoats, 16 bed socks, 31 parcels old linen,-70 body belts, 34 night shirts, ‘27 scarves, 1 pair gloves, 16 pairs mittens, ‘2O pairs siippers, 83 treasuie bags, 19 soldiers’ bags, ‘2 hot-water bags, 6 serviettes, 7 overcoats, 23 drossiug gowns, 1038 bandages, 11,677 swabs, 7 pillow cases, 74 milk covers, 8 dusters, 1 cushion; total, 7235 artioles, exclusive of 11,677 swabs. On behalf of the ladies’ committee, Mrs R. W, Anderson wished to thank the donors and collectors for the great help they had been in supplying and collecting funds, without which' the goods forwarded could not have been made. Mrs Anderson had stated also that the ladies’ committee was prepared to double the amount of goods for the coming year, provided tho necessary funds could he supplied. The receipts totalled £521 3s 6d, made up as follow:—Amount collected by men £448 18s 7d, sale of flag £ll, Library euchre matches £l2 os 7d, doll dressing competition £1 3«, Sydenham Bowling Club £3 18s, amounts handed in by Mrs E. Anderson £ll 3s . 6d. Girls’ Friendly Society £1 4a 9d, Picture benefits £9 18s 6d, Oddfellows’ parade (St Saviour’s Church) £3 13s, St Saviour’s Church 13s 4d, Burgesses’ Association £2 2s, Addington orchestral concert £5 13s fid, Sydenham Football olub £lO, Rovers’ concert £4 14s 9d. The expenditure was £4S9 0s sd, the items being as follow:—Material for making up goods £423 0s Sd . and soldiers’ kits £l6, leading a credit balance of, £B2 8s Id. None of the funds subscribed had beep used for expenses, no charge being made for advei rising, books, stamps, circulars and) petty cash. r" - r repox* and balance-sheet ware adopted.
