RUSSIA’S AIMS. SPEECHES IN TEE DUMA. Australian and N.Z. Cabla Association. LONDON, November 16. Tho “Daily Chronicle’s” Petrograd correspondent dtates that the Duma has resumed. Speeches in both Houses emphasised the necessity of fighting to a victorious finish. The only severe criticism of the Government was aimed at the removal of the causes preventing the nation developing its full energies to win the war. A member of the Right characterised the advocates of a separate peace as State criminals. M.. Rodzianko expressed gratitude for the loyalty of the Allies, and a deputy cried “Long live England 1” The House gave an ovation to Sir George Buchanan. Polish representatives protested against the parody of Polish independence, which debarred the ideal of a free, united Poland, that could only be securable by tbe Allies. The main theme of the speeches dwelt on the necessity to bring the Government into closer touch with Russian public opinion. POLAND. STILL PART OF RUSSIA. " The Timas ” Service. PETROGRAD, November 16. Russia has protested that the AustroGerman proclamation in Poland violates tho international convention signed by the Central Powers, and therefore it is null and void. Russia reaffirms that Poland is still part of Russia. THE VATICAN’S ATTITUDE. PROCLAMATION NOT RECOGNISED. United Service. (Received “November 18, 12.30 a.m.) ROME, November 17. The - “ Agencie Nazionale ” states that the Holy See officially is taking no notice of the Polish proclamation as an international measure affecting the Vatican. MUNITIONS EXPLODE. HEAVY LOSS AT ARCHANGEL. Reuter’s Telegrams. * 1 (Received November 17, 9.40 p.m.) COPENHAGEN, November 16. An explosion of munitions at Archangel destroyed two steamers, two barracks, and harbour buildings. One hundred and fifty people were killed and sixty-five were injured.
