A FURTHER ADJOURNMENT. (Received November 17,- 9.35 p.m.) ' MELBOURNE, November 17. The coal conference resumed behind closed doors. It is understood that each side made counter-proposals, which were not accepted. Finally Mr Hughes temporarily adjourned the conference to allow consideration of the Government’s proposal. MINERS TO TAKE BALLOT (Received November 18, 12.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, November 17, At the conference the miners’ representatives decided to call aggregate meetings inwall districts on Monday to take a ballot on the question of immediate resumption of work in accordance with Mr Hughes’s proposal. If the proposal is accepted work will he resumed on Wednesday or Thursday. TO COAL TRANSPORTS. MELBOURNE, November 17. Mr Jensen states that the conference was abortive. Drastic action is necessary to coal transports, and he has already requisitioned the supplies of hydraulic power and gas companies. BRISBANE IN DARKNESS.
