An old and respected settler, Mr John B. Clarke, died at the'Waimate North parsonage, Auckland province, on Sunday, aged seventy-seven. He was the- youngest son of the late Mr Georgo Clarke, one of the early missionaries, who licid the office of protector of aborigines under Governor Hobson. He was a brother of the late Archdeacon E. 13. Clarke. He at one- time occupied several public positions. He was a member of the Bay of Islands County Co.incil, president of the Bay of Islands Pastoral and Industrial Association, and first chairman of directors of the Bay of Islands Dairy Company.
