Lance-Corporal John Cloke, who was 'killed in action in France on September 2ti, left New Zealand with the Fourth Battalion of the New Zealand .Rifle ''Brigade. He was twenty-two years of age, .and prior' to enlisting was employed on the New Zealand Railways. He • served three years in the Railway Engineers. He was well-known in j owing, football and hockey circles at Roto.rua, where he resided for some- time. His parents reside in York Street, I'arnell. , w .Corporal Bruce Pelvinj killed -n ac- , taon in France, was twenty-five years of age; and was with the Australian Force at the landing at Gallipoli, and took part' in the inarch with the Australians from Tel-el-Kobir ■ to.• the Canal. At the time-he-was killed ho was corporal lii the Lewis machine-gun section of the - Forty-ninth Brigade.. He. was horn in and was educated at the Waimatnitai School and the Timaru High School. years of ago. He was a member of. the Lirrwood -.Football ..and Cricket Clubs, and also won prizes for swimming, being a member of the Waltlwm Swimming Club. His mother, Mrs James Elvy, resides in Byron Street, Sydenham. ' ' Mrs William Torris, Cox Street, Ashburton, received a letter on Wednesday from her son, Private William George Terris, who was wounded in the shoulder on September 28, stating that he is in the Soldiers' Christian Association Convalescent Camp, Rouen, France, and ia progressing favourably. Mr J. A. Brosnan, Telegraph Office, has received a cable message stating that his eldest son, Reginald Kenneth Bruce Brosnan, who has been twice wounded, is now convalescent at Hornohurch. Mrs Cooke, of Peacock Street, has received a cable message stating that h&r eon, Private C. K. Cooke, who was wounded in France, is convalescent at Hornchurch Hospital.
