SWIMMERS AND THE WAR.
"Hundreds of our swimmers have left New Zealand to fight for the Empire, and every reinforcement leaving the Dominion contains many more, says the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association in its report for the annual meeting. The report continues:—" The toll of war has been heavy, and many of those who have gone have fought thou- last, fight. As they have lived so they have died—as sportsmen and gentlemen, and their memories will remain with us always', as having died the most honourable of deaths, witli their laces to the foe. It is impossible to individualise as overv club has given of its best, and swimmers whose names were known throughout New Zealand will no more ho seen amongst us. The council extends its heartfelt and sincere sympathy to fhose who have .lost their ■jons'nnd brothers, and ventures to express the hope that this fearful struggle will soon give Way to an honourable and lasting peace."
