MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

CHRISTCHUItCH. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) James Browster pleaded guilty lo a charge of drunkenness. It was stated that it was his fourth offence within the statutory period, and after examining the accused's record, Mr Bishop sentenced him' to fourteen days' imprisonment with hard labour. Anthony Abbott was charged with stealing £l6 10s from Roland John Hassell, at Christchiirch, on October a. Accused elected to bo dealt with summarily, and pleaded guilty, but said that he wished first " to ask a few questions of tho man he stole the money from." Mr Bishop: I cannot allow that. You either plead guilty, or not guilty. Accused said that he would then plead not guilty. On the application of Chief-Detective Herbert, a remand was granted to Friday, November 24. (rMore Mr H. W. Edward Atherton de Houghton de Latour, who had pleaded guilty on the previous dav to a. charge of indecently assautling a. male under the age of fourteen years, was further-charged on two counts, of indecent assault oti two ,other.lads., . Captain R. Hatchwell, J.P., and Mr W. C. Cleary, J.P., presided at the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court yester'Thomas R. Williams on a charge of theft of a pair of blinkers, valued at 15s, the property of the Lyttelton Borough Council, was remanded until the following day. I CHEVIOT. Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., presided at the Cheviot Magistrate's Our; on Wednesday. hi a civil case, L. E. Laugesen (MrMosley) v. W. R. Webster judgnient was given by default for £6 2s lid. In the ease 8. Solomon (Mr Mosley) v H. .larvis. defendant, who had not fiied notice of defence, applied to do so. The case was adjourned until tho end of the sitting, when pUintifi: agreed to accept judgment for'the amount less 7s 6d disputed, viz., £b Ids and costs. Judgment was given tor plaintiff by default ju the following cases:—J. 'Pocklington (Mr Edgar) v. J. C Moran, claim £2 6s: J. Pocklington (Mr Edgo,r) v. W. R. Webster, claim £5 lis. » ■„ W. M-f Munro, Rabbit Inspector, proceeded 'against G. P. Murray-Ayns-lov on a charge of failing to destroy rabbits. Mr Mosley, for defendant, applied for adjournment till next Court day, as defendant had commenced shearing and owing to scarcity of hands was unable to leave his shed, Munro opposed the adjournmenty as the Court would' not sit again for three menths, when he! expected to be in Dunedin. The case was adjourned to Culverden on November 29. A. Elliott charged with failing to attend annual camp, pleaded guilty and was. fined 20s and costs. W. Weatherdon pleaded guilty to two charge? of allowing cattle to wander on roads and was fined ssf on eaich charge without costs.
