FIRES.
OUTBREAK AT ALDINGTON. An outbreak of firo occurred on Saturday, about 11.30 p.m., in the waste paper' sheds- leased by the Salvation Army from the Public Works .Department, at Poulson Street, Addmgton. The fire brigade arrived promptly, and succeeded in confining the flames to the original sourer, of the trouble, although within a few feet were other sheds containing waste paper. Tbe building was badly damaged. Ino total damage is estimated at £2OO.
BUILDING AT ASHBURTON BURNT.
An unoccupied five-roomed house, the property of Mr A. Bremner, and situated in Mocre Street. Ashburton, was destroyed by fire early on Saturday morning. It was insured in the Phoenix office for £320.
BAKEHOUSE AT SOUTHBRIDGE DESTROYED.
\t an earlv hour-on Friday morning, a resident of Southbridgc saw flames issuing from Mr J. F. Free's bakehouse situated at the rear of his shop and dwelling in High Street. An alarm was given, and tho fire brigade soon arrived. Fortunately, the night was calm and rather damp, and, although Mr Free's house and other buildings were only a few feet away, the fire was confined'to the bakehouse, which was completely destroyed, together with the contents. It is not known how the fire staited. The baker had set his sponge as usual'and left the building about nine o'clock. There was then no sign of fire. The oven was not' damaged. There was no insurance on tho, building or contents.
