The death is announced of Brother Thomas Kemp, grand secretary of the .Oddfellows of (ho State.
AIRS RURU, OF PORT LEVY. A well-known and respected Native lady of Port Levy, Airs Huhana Ruru, died on A\ \biesday night at the o’ge of seventy-five- years. Her father was a leading whaler in the early days and had a station near Godley Head. He was killed while chasing a whale off Kaikoura. For many years the family lived in a whare at Lyttelton, near where the mouth of the tunnel now is. Mrs Ruru ftvas the first grower at PortLevy of tho violets which that place now produces in such profusion. One of hor two sons, Shadrach Ruru, is at present fighting in France,, and Mrs Ruru herself has been very prominent in patriotic work. Air A-panma. Ruru is the first sonj the daughters are Mrs M. Williams and Airs Pakihaani, of 'Port- Levy. Airs Solomon, of Tuahiwi, is a sister of Airs Ruru.
