The members of the Canterbury Elec* trieal Contractors’ Association met yes* terday to entertain Sir Nelson Jones,l vice-president, at luncheon, prior to his departure for Trentham. Mr Fran-; cis Clark, president of tho .association# presented Mr Jones with a case of pipes and a pouch, and eulogistic speeehes were made by Messrs; L. Birks, E. E. Stark and E. P. Turner. ..A social was held in Mr J. C. T* Baker’s shed, Waipara, on Thursday, to bid farewell to Private E. Bock. The guest was presented by Canon Purcnas with a sleeping bag, and Mrs Bock with a bread board and tray. Quartettes were given by Miss Whitmore, Mrs Doyle and Messrs Whyte and Doyle, and recitations by Messrs Bock and Gardifier. Mrdiiid Mrs Whyte supSlied the greater part of. the music, uttonholes given by Mrs Baker helped to swell tho funds. .. '•

The Wcedons Schoolroom was crowded on Wednesday evening, the occasion being a farewell social to Privates G. Cross, 11. Cross and S. Ellis. Unfortunately Private Ellis was unable _ to attend. During the evening musical items were contributed by Misses Lareombe (2), Dalziel, Owen and Bruce. Mrs Wallace and Messrs Wallace and Johnston and tho Rev W. B. Scott. Mr Alex Phillips on behalf of the residents presented the,; soldiers with .it wristlet watch each and tlie.ih a safe return. Messrs Smith, MlViimicff Ryan and Manion also niado eulogistic references to the recipients. Mr Pi F» Ryan accepted the present fer Private Ellis. Tho evening concluded with a daucc. ■ The members of the Christchurch City Council electrical staff- met. on Monday afternoon to hid farewell . to two of their number, Messrs T. Power and F. Landery, who are proceeding to camp with the Eighteenth Reinforcements. On behalf of tho staff the city Electrical Engineer (Mr E. B. Stark) presented each soldier with a number of useful articles, as a token of esteem. At Omihi a farewell was tendered to Sergeant D. Fostef, who is leaving with tho Reinforcemonts- Mr Doak prosided. Songs were contributed by Mesdames Brown, Doyle and Savilf, Misses Johnstone, Sloss' and Doak', Messrs Doyle, Dalton and Whyte and school children; ducts by Mrs Doyle and Mr Whyte and Miss and Sergeant Johnstone; ‘and a pianoforte solo by Miss M. Doak'. Mrs Whyte and Mjs,s Doak were the accompanists, -v, Tho chairman presented Sergeant Fosr.ep with an engraved-Maltese cross as a cb'cht token of esteem from his Omihi friends. . After supper the floor was cl a red for dancing, Mrs and Mr Whyte and Mrs Colo supplying the music.
